Who does the Code of Conduct Apply to?
The Build Local Code of Conduct applies to all businesses who have signed a contract with Build Local for the purpose of promoting their business through the Build Local website. It is the duty of these businesses to take reasonable measures to ensure that their employees and business associates do not breach this Code.
To maintain a reputable brand image and high level of trust in the local building industry we ask that all businesses who advertise with Build Local agree to do the following:
- Conduct their business in a safe manner
- Act in an honest and fair manner when dealing with all customers
- Carry out work in accordance with the local and state government building regulations
- Understand and conduct their business within Fair Trading Legislation guidelines
- Maintain a high standard of customer service and workmanship for customers
- Promote Build Local by referring customers to our website to assist fellow local businesses
- Act in a lawful manner when dealing with customers at all times
- Handle client complaints and disputes in a timely and efficient manner
- Ensure that products and services are delivered as advertised or per agreement
- Avoid any behaviour or activity that may harm the Build Local brand
- Agree to refrain from making any unfair or misleading statements about other Build Local advertised businesses
The obligations of this Code will be distributed and must be read and understood by all businesses wishing to promote their services through the Build Local website prior to the Service Agreement commencement.
Dealing with Consumer Complaints
If Build Local receives a complaint or concern from a consumer in relation to the way an advertised business is conducting their work, we will contact the business in question to inform them of the issue so that they can attempt to resolve the matter directly with their customer. Depending on the severity of the matter being raised, Build Local has the right to suspend the relevant business listing/s until further investigations have taken place.
Cancellation or Refusal
In the interest of all of our Build Local advertised businesses and to protect our brand reputation, Build Local reserves the right to refuse or cancel a contract if a breach of the Build Local Code of Conduct has occurred.
Build Local may suspend or cancel a business listing if we are made aware that a tradesperson or builder is conducting residential building work without the appropriate NSW Fair Trading contractor licence.
The Build Local Code of Conduct forms part of the Client Service Agreement and it is the responsibility of the Client to distribute this information to their employees and contractors.
